Christie Faces Scandal on Traffic Jam Aides Ordered - NYTimes.com

Think about this. If Chris Christie has long trusted aids that pull a stunt like this for political gains or payback, (it's still unclear if Christie himself is directly involved, wink-wink), what might we expect from his potential staff should there be a "President Christie"?

The Republicans have a storied legacy when it comes to political malfeasance, and this latest caper, while local in scope, smells like Nixon's Watergate. In both cases, (Nixon and Christie) the Republican incumbents were unsatisfied with their huge leads in the polls prior to their re-election. Nixon put a historic hurt on McGovern and Barbara Buono had no chance to unseat Christie, but in both cases, they felt a need to pile on with political crimes.

Both Nixon and Christie, huge narcissists (as most politicians are), had the paranoid need to totally dominate and obliterate all opposition. Laws and morality be damned.

What might we expect if the Christie crew were to grab national power in the age of NSA surveillance and the Patriot Act?

The mind reels.
