Take away the funny hats and goofy uniforms. Take away the blurriness of photos nearly 80 years old. Take away the absurd mustache and replace it with an equally absurd hair weave.
France was engulfed by Nazi Germany in WW II. The result was a puppet regime situated in Vichy that collaborated with the Nazis. Vichy has become synonymous with feckless traitorous behavior.
The modern Republican party has bolstered, cooperated with and given succor to the new fascism of Donald Trump's presidency. They are as un-American as Vichy was anti-French.
If the United States is to survive in a form that respects its heritage, history or values, the Vichy Republicans must be held to account for their actions.
