Back in 1988, Vice President George H.W. Bush, while running for President, derided ACLU members as un-American, they were "card-carrying members of the ACLU". Funny, after the fiasco that was two terms of Ronald Reagan, it was this misguided attack on an organization dedicated to preserving the Bill of Rights that impelled me to finally join up.
Now, decades later, we have another Republican administration that states its unequivocal opposition to the most basic American ideals and values. The ACLU doesn't win every fight, but they always fight. They fight for the principles embodied in the Constitution. They fight for what makes America, America.
By the looks of things, there are going to be a lot of fights coming up.
