Michael Medved: Obama Isn't Trying to 'Weaken America' - WSJ.com

Hold on there Medved!

This piece seeks to make the case that Obama is not trying to destroy America. An odd and yet sane commentary from a Conservative. The problem with his analysis is that the underlying premise, is false.

He harkens back to an anecdote from John Adams, where Adams offers his wish that the White House forever be occupied by honest men. Medved lists and excludes James Buchanan and Jimmy Carter (?!?) from this list, and assigns Bill Clinton to the Richard Nixon liars list.

In the end, he claims that Obama, contrary to the radical Conservatives lunatic rantings, is not trying tho bring down America. That by and large, all of the American Presidents, scandal-ridden or no, were all just a bunch of swell guys who only wanted the best for America. The fatal flaw in this "gee, Obama is like the others, all were good" description is that it lets the true criminals of history off the hook. Nixon, Reagan, Bush I and II, were lying schemers, war criminals, war profiteers, and aloof stewards of policies that demeaned our country and the middle class.

This rhetorical trickery doesn't work. Giving Obama a right wing pass, won't change the criminal exploits of Republicans past.
