Broadway Vacancies Contribute to Lower Attendance - NYTimes.com:

It's interesting that this article seems to ignore the effects of Hurricane Sandy on the past year's attendance and revenue decline. While it may be true that the superstorm helped end the wobbly runs of several shows, it was more the long gaps between engagements at many theaters that bear more of the blame for the disappointing numbers.

The rose colored glasses press release by the Broadway League announcing the year end numbers really doesn't jibe with the real world facts outlined here by the quoted executives.
