I think we'd best just cut to the chase on this one.
After over 30 years of deregulation and the resulting economic destruction visited upon this country's middle class, it is well past time to try to somehow rein in the wretched excess that has been allowed to flow unchecked to the wealthiest in this society. The jobs have disappeared. The health and safety of the country has been sacrificed upon the altar of unfettered capitalist greed. The airlines, the banks, the drug companies, the list goes on and on.
The Wild West doesn't work. We have broken the social compact. It's long past time to make it right and fair again. It's hard not to think it's too late, but we must try.
