There is a lot of hot air from both sides of this budget "debate". How to make sense of it all when there is obfuscation and spin from both camps?
It is less important what these numbers actually mean mathematically, than what is the impact of the budget upon the most vulnerable members of society. The fashionable deficit vigilance now all the rage in Washington, and the states, is a convenient way to avoid our responsibilities as a civilized nation.
It is the program of the radical Conservatives and the dim-witted Teabaggers to shred the social safety net and engorge the wealthiest with lower taxes. It is unpatriotic and un-American of them.
