Hey, here's that wacky old enemy of the arts, the Wall Street Journal, helping to promote smartphone apps that list discount tickets to NY theater. Nothing like the WSJ clientele, those high earners they flaunt to their advertisers, scooping up discount tickets. Are they not entitled to? Of course. Yet it is an inescapable fact that those that can afford to pay have always subsidized those who could not afford to. Increasing the competition for discount tickets will result in the higher price for these discounts we are now seeing. Basically, it winds up hurting everybody. Thanks a lot WSJ! You really are quite a capitalist tool.
